Apple’s 29W adapter not supported by MagSafe Duo Charger

The MagSafe Duo Charger is currently available for purchase from Apple’s website. But anyone who wants to use their old 29W adapter for the accessory will come home from a rude awakening.

Apple has announced via the Apple Support website that the adapter, which has since been replaced by a 30W model, cannot be used. So you will have to buy a new charger.

MagSafe Duo Charger does not support 29W adapter

The MagSafe Duo Charger is a handy accessory that allows you to charge your Apple Watch and iPhone at the same time. Sounds very useful, but in practice that can sometimes be disappointing. For example, the accessory will cost you € 145 and there is a chance that you will have to purchase an adapter of € 25. But those who want to get more out of it can also get started with an adapter that delivers more power. Like your 29W adapter that you got with your MacBook a few years ago. Only that adapter is not supported.

Apple replaced the 29W adapter with a 30W adapter a few years ago. The latter is supported by the MagSafe Duo Charger, but not the old model anymore. This means that when people want to get the most out of it, they have to buy a new adapter. Apple recommends using at least 20W power, so it’s not required. Chances are that users of the MagSafe Duo Charger already have a 20W adapter at home. It would be excellent with that. can. But those who want to charge with more power, and therefore faster, still have to buy a new adapter.Apple's 29W Adapter Not Supported by MagSafe Duo Charger

Doesn’t sound very cheap

We have not yet been able to test the MagSafe Duo Charger at this time, but it initially looks like a handy product. But when you take a closer look at the specifications, you mainly see a fairly pricey product that will not yield much benefit.

The MagSafe Duo currently costs you € 145 and only comes with a charging cable. Anyone who has an old 5W adapter at home is pissed off next to the pot because a minimum power of 15W is required. People who do not have a 20W adapter at home must therefore purchase one, which means that the costs already go towards € 170. And then you are able to charge with a power of 11W. If you want to use the full potential of the accessory, you should buy a 30W Macbook adapter. This means you have lost € 200 and it is possible to charge with a power of 14W.

That may not sound too bad to some people, but if you compare this with the regular MagSafe you get less out of it. The “regular model” , so to speak, delivers 15W power for € 45. If you then need a 20W adapter, this will cost you € 70. And to think that charging with a regular charger of 20W for € 25 is a lot faster.
