At the end of 2019, it was suggested that OnePlus would launch a so-called OnePlus 8 Lite: the device never appeared on the market. With the upcoming OnePlus 9 series, the Lite moniker would be taken off the shelf. In practice, it is a cheaper OnePlus 8T, it is suggested.
OnePlus 9 Lite
OnePlus is expected to turn out quite well in March, the expected launch month for the OnePlus 9 series. Among other things, an OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro are planned; According to Android Central, the launch of the OnePlus 9 Lite, the cheapest phone in this 9 series from the Chinese company, can also be anticipated. It is not the first time that rumors have appeared about an additional phone in the 9 series: Max Jambor, a respected rumor maker, previously spoke about the arrival of an ‘OnePlus 9E’.
Whether the OnePlus 9E is the same device as the ‘9 Lite’ that Android Central reported on Wednesday evening, is not known to us. What we do know is how OnePlus would plan to save on the cost of the Lite moniker. Rather than deploying Qualcomm’s news chipset, the 9 Lite features the Snapdragon 865 chipset, which is currently found in OnePlus’ 8 series.
The same trick would be used for the cameras of the OnePlus 9 Lite: instead of spending time developing a new camera module, OnePlus would like to reuse the sensors from its 8T . Finally, there is speculation about the charging speed of the 9 Lite – presumably, just like on the OnePlus 8T, a maximum charging speed of 65 watts has been chosen.
Inside, the device seems to share many details with the OnePlus 8T, which is for sale in the Netherlands and Belgium for 599 euros. Nevertheless, OnePlus will take measures to distinguish the cheapest 9-series device from the 8T. For this it uses a ‘mainstream design’, which includes a plastic housing, as opposed to the 8T’s glass housing. Other details of OnePlus’ mainstream design remain unknown to date.
Ultimately, these differences between the OnePlus 8T and the OnePlus 9 Lite will have to lead to a fundamentally different cost for the consumer. It is currently suggested that OnePlus would give the 9 Lite a suggested retail price of $ 600. In comparison, for the 8T, OnePlus charges $ 749 in the United States – a price difference of about $ 150. How that price difference can be converted into euros will have to become clear at the launch.
